                          President’s Letter 

Welcome to 2009, and our first issue of our NCHIMA Newsletter for the year. I want to take this opportunity to thank Kristi Stanton, RHIT, CCS, CPC, past-President, our 2008 Executive Board, and all of our volunteers who stepped up to the plate to make last year a stunning success for both the organization and for you, our individual members. Of course, a HUGH thanks goes to all of you who faithfully attend our meetings and consistently support NCHIMA. We begin this year with updated Bylaws, a new Logo, a new webmaster, and the beginnings of an affiliate agreement with CHIMA. We still need to update all job descriptions and bring them into the 21st century, which will be one of my main goals. I intend to have them completed by our fall meeting. I have to remember what my personal mission has always been in being a member of NCHIMA. It is simply to participate in providing great education, fostering lasting friendships and sharing good food for a reasonable price! We had some of the best programs ever this past year, and will strive to provide the same caliber of speakers again. Since I was just joking about the food, I would like to turn our focus to increasing participation by our membership in whatever way we can, so if you get a call from me during the year, don’t be surprised. I will also be working with CHIMA to finalize the Affiliate agreement with our State organization. Finally, I will be advocating for a student liaison to the Board, since I believe our students provide fresh insight and energy, while our more seasoned members can provide them an opportunity for networking and mentoring. Attached is the annual registration form. Active membership dues are being raised to $20, which provides you with a discount on all 2009 meetings, ensures you are on our most current membership list and makes you eligible to run for a Board position. Your fees also help fund our scholarship program for our HIM students. I encourage you to share the information about our organization with others who need quality education at rock-bottom prices. Note: Membership for students enrolled in an AHIMA accredited program is still free. Please visit our current website at www.nichimaonline.org to check out meeting schedules and any EBlasts. Thanks to Supryia Nair, RHIA, for offering her expertise to further develop our current site. Our contract is expiring for this site, so stay tuned for new developments. If you do not have access to our website, we will continue to offer hard copies of newsletters at your request.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming meetings. Let’s join together to have a successful year!
